Friday, October 23rd, 2015

Its always easy to be upbeat and happy when things are going well.
I have discovered that its the hard times that really show us who we are.
When you can stand up and not lie down when adversity strikes.

Friday, March 7th, 2014

Last night March 6th at 7:00 pm was the beginning a 12 week training course. for families that are dealing with their mentally Ill love ones.. Its a venue that will allow us to talk about the challenges we face, the obstacles we have to over come. . The stigma in society . How to to help our family members and most importantly how to take care of our selves . I came away feeling empowered and knowing without a doubt their is strength in numbers . Our group appears to be ready to embark on this journey learning sharing and supporting one another. Nina and Alan McDaniels our facilitators are a blessing to the Mental Health field and the world.

Already we are into 2014 and as it should life goes on. I met a awesome young lady name Renee. She spoke at Penn State Berks campus . She shared with the audience the ups and downs of her struggle with Mental Illness. She was very inspiring and appear to have put her demons to rest. She is a recording artist and shared some of her songs with us . Her voice is a sultry and unique. the one thing that she said that stuck with me is that information plus application equals transformation. What a awesome concept . A movie is being made of her life. I look forward to its debut. Bearcat is the name she records under. I am so happy That I had the opportunity to spend time with her before her presentation.

Silver Linings Playbook

I watched this movie at the theater and when it came out on DVD I bought it and invited my coworkers to watch it. I love this movie because it dealt with mental Illness with a reality based understanding. It showed the characters dealing with their issues in the way they knew how . You watched them fail succeed and grow . You laughed, cried, and cheered them on GREAT MOVIE! I am going to watch Call me Crazy next will let you know my thoughts.

It’s been a while

Monday, May 20th, 2013

It has been quite some time since I’ve written anything.

Life comes at you hard and fast sometimes and you have to deal with it.

I am now in  a quandary  about my youngest son . He  needs surgery to repair his arm .

He fell down the steps a year or so ago and broke his elbow. They put  a device in it so he could remain mobile.

He didn’t follow through with his   PT  due to his mental instability and the boned fused and he  has no  mobility  at all.

Two doctors has refused to  operate stating that  the surgery is  risky and they feel he will not follow through.

They refuse to take into consideration he is a  patient at a state hospital and the medical staff is willing to do every thing to make

sure he follows  through with   his   physical therapy. A  Bone and Joint Doctor  in Hershey said he would do the procedure .

However it seems he is changing is mind  and is on board with every one else about the  possibility he  might not follow through.

I believe with the right support , he can do what needs to be done to gain  mobility in his arm. The operation I’ve been told is complicated and risky.

But to  not  have a useless  arm dangling at your side is  I Think is worth the risk.

I know I must pray about this because my son is  between a rock and a hard place and so am I . The decision to fight for this  to take place

lies   with me . I pray for  guidance in making the right  decision

When people are viewed as citizens of the world and not by their title or diagnosis . There is no such thing as perfection. We all have something to contend with or figure out, even if its trying to fix others and not our selves

Friendship

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

When tell a secret that you have been entrusted to keep. You may think its for a good reason but it hurts like hell when you face the pain and disappointment of your friend who feels you betrayed them.

I spent a restlessless night thinking and rethinking about this situation. I came to the conclusion, that only time will tell if I did the right thing and if you can’t change what you did five minutes ago, you can’t change what you did 24 hours ago . My friend is a loving nuturing soul , we will get past this.

Welcome to my no judgment zone.

At first I would like to thank every one who visited or will visit my site.

Mental Illness is my misson and my passion. I want the world to know, that Mental Illness is a equal opporunity disease

It touches the lives of the little known and the well known. When it came into my life over  20 years ago, uninvited and took  up residence,. My son was only 17  .  He was diagnosed with Parnoid Schizophrenia, I cried and prayed because I knew our lives was was about to take a drastic turn for the worst. My knowlege at that time was very limited. I joined a organization called  Nami and began to educate my self . Its  helpful to be a part of a group of people who are  on the same journey and truly understand what  you  are going through. So at the age of  16 my 2nd son  started to experience similar  problems . I was sadden but more  informed as to what we needed to do. This story does not have a fairy tale ending. My oldest son spent

11 years in a state hospital and is now living in the  community in a group home.   My second son is in a Program that is teaching  him the  ABc’s of recovery and how to invest in his own well being. Mental Illness is nothing to be ashamed of , It has to be endured , understood and dealt with , the way we deal any challenges that come our way. If we can eradicate. the stigma that a  big part of the battle.  So until next time keep the faith and never ever give up

Juanita
